Starbenders

Hailing from the ATL, Starbenders are the half way home for misunderstood misfits, fringers and glam punks. Front-woman, Kimi Shelter and her gang have concocted a perfect alchemic blend of androgynous rock and roll power with "stuck in your brain" pop melodies. Imagine David Bowie playing 7 minutes in heaven with Debbie Harry.

Shelter began working with producer, Nico Constantine (Lady Gaga , Program The Dead, Institution Records) in 2014 who encouraged her to start a band. Aaron Lecesne was the first call Shelter made. The duo were best of friends and had intense music crushes on each other. The genesis of Starbenders took form. Guitarist, Kriss Tokaji, entered the scene in early 2015 after the band witnessed him laying waste to a guitar at a shitty house party in the middle of no where. "We couldn't believe our ears and eyes! Our prayers had been answered!", beams Shelter. The dream line up crystallized in 2017 with the entrance of drummer, Emily Moon. "It was the final piece to the puzzle. The band was in the middle of a transition and I thought to check craigslist of all places when I came across Emily's ad." shared Lecesne. After responding to the band's cryptic email, Moon met up with them that same night. It was love at first sight.

The Queendom

THE QUEENDOM consists of two royal entities with a musical chemistry that reigns in all aspects. AUDIADASOUND and Rocket Rhonnie, both Atlanta natives, joined forces and started creating music in July 2016. Since then, they have performed locally with aspirations of reaching global audiences.

Both queens are skilled in their crafts. AUDIADASOUND has been the primary producer of Avant Garde Exchange, LLC since 2007. Rhonnie has mastered audio engineering while having the opportunity to intern at Music Box Studios and Sound Resort Studio, both located in Atlanta, GA. Through collaborative songwriting, production and recording, these two combined embody the beacons of modern creativity in the realm where femininity is underestimated.

THE QUEENDOM's first piece was featured on the CLASSIK Apparel compilation "Been Good, Vol. 1" on the tracked entitled "F.D.B.S." Since becoming a duo, they've released their promotional singles, "Come" featuring Shria Amour and "#QUEENSHIT." Their self-entitled LP will be released in the Summer of 2017.

Shouldies

"A play on the word “shoulders”, Shouldies as a name reminiscences kid-powered rewording, the “strawbabies” and “roast beasts” of childhood. As an electronic outfit, Shouldies relies less on the whimsical and more on the surreal. “Statue”, their first recorded material engineered by Esar Tehrani, emits a palpitating smokiness. Yancey Ballard’s talk-singing is a strong instrument on its own, building intensity with John Pierce’s use of MicroKORG and Daniel Eberlein’s programmed drums and bass synth. With a sound surprisingly full for a three piece, Yancey’s sprechgesang, like a haunting early Modern Lovers’ Jonathan Richman, provides a post-punk edge to John and Daniel’s synthwave foundation. “When I wrote this song I wanted the act of everything to be stripped away. I was tired of the whole performance of touch,” he explains. “I wanted someone to touch my skin with no intention. With something pure and perfect. I think of the repetitive verses in a mocking sense.” Craving a different creative current, when Yancey and John dissolved their long time project, Man Up Yancey, they were exhausted of relying on traditional band structures. John had cultivated a solo project, Post Hunk, that combined drum machine with traditional guitar and bass. While Yancey is always creating, currently making a zine about trans body positivity, the two knew they need another counterpart. When Daniel moved from Macon with a previous background in noise and an interest in electronic music, they found their magic number, three.  Without requiring a traditional drummer, or even dependence on a typical practice space, Shouldies, as a newer Atlanta act, also crosses over into queer art and identity. Having played many captivating performances, quickly gaining a devoted following, audiences look forward to more recordings and shows from this innovative group." -Wussy

TAYLOR ALXNDR

"Rising Atlanta-based artist TAYLOR ALXNDR is gearing up to release her debut EP, NOISE, which will premiere July 7 through Futurehood, the queer label behind underground stars Mister Wallace and KC Ortiz. A self-proclaimed "DIY pop priestess," ALXNDR leads her breakout project with "Nightwork," a dense, autotune-heavy track about the oft overlooked hustle of drag culture—especially as a trans person of color. "I would like to somehow know my worth," ALXNDR coos wistfully, but with a clear sense of self. "Cause I been putting in the nightwork." ALXNDR's "Nightwork" video, produced by ACAPULPO, was captured during an Atlanta show she performed at this December. With shots of the singer getting into gig, the visual showcases the behind-the-scenes process of a drag performance—all the gritty hard work that goes into a single night of glamour. "Sometimes you leave the show feeling empty, even with a purse full of tips," she says, describing how the song unpacks the tug-and-pull relationship of life as a drag queen. Though dreamy and transcendent, the work is also labor-filled and exhausting. "NOISE is a soundtrack to the experiences of my life," ALXNDR says of her debut. "As a queer and trans person of color trying to live and thrive in this world, you get used to the 'noise' or dissonance that comes with existing. From the noise of being a drag queen to the noise of being a part of the Black Trans Lives Matter movement, this EP captures the struggle and the success of my living. It's a love letter to the communities I'm a part of that, despite the powers that be, still thrive." -Out.com
