Daedelus
Daedelus
Like his mythological namesake, Daedelus is an inventor, a creator of sonic labyrinths combining sounds from an eclectic palette into an innovative genre all his own. Otherwise known as Alfred Darlington, the Los Angeles producer has over two-dozen releases on a variety of labels and collaborates with musicians in many worlds: electronic, jazz, hip-hop, etc. His music runs the gamut of emotion, alternately intense and mellow, exuberant and melancholy, danceable and introspective.
Daedelus has performed over a thousand shows for audiences on five continents, everywhere from Iceland to Istanbul. He is a founding father of the L.A. “Beat Scene,” often playing the storied Low End Theory club nights. Each live show is unique, employing Monome controllers and open-source software which allows for on-the-fly improvisation. The backdrop onstage is Daedelus’ collaborative invention Archimedes, a robotic array of moving mirrors which reacts to and reflects the performance. Daedelus most recently composed the soundtrack for the award-winning video game Nidhogg.
Holly
Despite hitting the scene a mere 3-years ago, Lisbon-based Holly has toured North America, Europe, Australia and Asia stemming from a flood of releases on Buygore, Fool’s Gold, Dim Mak, Circus Records and Division Recordings. Whilst earning steadfast support from the likes of Bassnectar, Baauer, Noisia, DJ Shadow, he was featured in DJ MAG and Run The Trap as one of their ‘Top 50 Artists to Watch in 2017’. With a musical background stemming from Hip-Hop, DnB and all corners of the bass world, Holly’s live performances emote a balanced mix of raw energy, excitement and eclectic taste that’s helped him develop a loyal following around the globe.
Wylie Cable
Wylie Cable is the founder of Los Angeles based Dome of Doom Records, an independent artist owned label that’s been putting out new experimental and underground music over the past 7 years from many of LA’s finest up-and-comers as well established beat scene veterans (Daedelus, Linafornia, DJ Nobody, Huxley Anne, Elusive, Space Gang, ELOS, Swisha, to name a few…) Wylie Cable has released five full length albums on Dome of Doom since the labels inception, and continues to produce new records and tour with artists from the Dome of Doom roster.
An L.A. native, Cable grew up riding his bike around the streets of Silverlake and learning to read music and play instruments in L.A. public schools. After traveling to play in national competitions with his high school symphony orchestra, Cable learned how to slap the standup bass at CalArts, where he studied under LA Phil Co-principal bassist Peter Rofe. Wylie also studied Electric Bass in his teens with Lonnie Marshall, founding member of Weapon of Choice, and Kaveh Rastegar of Kneebody. Throughout his musical education, Wylie has played in more bands and ensembles than we could list on this page. For the curious, here is a small sampling: Grapes & Nuts, The Dog of Tears Orchestra, Oroborii, Freeblind, Einsteins Vacation on Turtle Island & The DeathMedicine Band.
Today, Cable’s channeled his passion for music into running one of the beat scene’s most promising record labels, Dome of Doom. Now in its seventh year, Dome of Doom has one foot in the physical past with an ear for contemporary and futuristic sounds. Each project is pressed to a limited run of cassettes (most of which sell out) and is available for your downloading/streaming pleasure (check the entire catalog on their Bandcamp). No matter the genre or subgenre, each project features an array of innovative instrumentals, the emphasis on head-nodding low end and the ethereal. With releases from veterans like Daedalus, DJ Nobody and Kenny Segal, as well as promising newcomers like Linafornia and Eureka the Butcher, the label might be the bridge the LA beat scene needs to continue.
